Lair of the Artificer

This dungeon isn't really that hard actually. But you still have to be level 47 in order to use all those charms you'll get.

Fight 1

You don't really have to kick somebody's ass in the traditional sense here. It's more of a puzzle fight. There are 4 enemies that each lose life when you play certain types of runes. Only the runes on the last charm played matter, so you don't have to bother with extra actions. Charms with 2 runes on them are very useful though. Each of the enemies is vulnerable to either: Kata runes, Vita Runes, small weapon runes or large weapon runes. You have to play each rune type 6 times to kill an enemy, so to prevent defeat by exhaustion you include each rune 7 times. You only have a limited amount of turns so bring out all those dual runes charms that you normally never use. You can make a deck of just 14 charms if you have the right combinations, but a few more doesn't matter.

Vita: Holy, Frost and Earth
Kata: Fire, Shadow and Lightning
Small weapon: Sword, Twinblade and Fist
Large Weapon: Axe, Mace and Spear

Example gear:

Nightmare Blade x2
Frigid Hammer x5
Shining Club x2
Charged Fist x5

Fight 2

Now we get to fight an actual enemy again. He uses a lot of aura that do all sort of things. There are basically 2 ways to defeat him. You can either use the auras or you can kill the auras. His auras give him lots or armor and ward which he then uses to project damage. The auras also give you bonuses when you play the right type of rune.

The first way is by using the auras. You can play Fist runes to get a huge CPB to melee or Frost runes to get a huge CPB to frost. You have to choose 1 of the 2 though since the enemy plays his projection charm right after his armor/ward charm. So keeping both armor and ward down to prevent damage isn't going to work. Depending on your hit points and damage output it might be useful to play some ward along with your fist gear or armor along with your frost gear to block some damage.

The second way is to kill the auras. All his auras only have a duration of 2 turns. But all his charms also increase the duration of all his auras. So by playing even a charm that decreases the duration of his auras by 1 you can get rid of them all. The only thing left is to do enough damage to kill him. Which you can do any way you prefer except by direct damage. So projection, banes, summons. Just pick your poison.

Example Gear:

Black Agony x5
Dark Siphon x5
Grim Presence x5
Darkness Falls x5
Black Torture x5
Death Sentence x4
Staff of Decay x5
Chaotic Decay x5
Inquisition x5
Devastate x5
Way of the Scout x5
Hateful Flame x5
Corroding Dust x2

Fight 3

Another enemy that extends auras. Just 1 aura this time though. Unfortunately a really nasty one. It increases his constant spirit bonus. He starts of with a huge penalty to his spirit so that gives you some time.

The first way to kill him is just to do as much damage as fast as you can. And playing some willpower might also be useful to give you a few extra turns once the enemy starts to do damage.

The second way is to use aura reducers to get rid of the aura. The aura has a duration of 11 turn and gets extended every turn. So you need to reduce the aura by 10 turns to kill it. Purging also works if you're a Slayer. Not if you're a Warden though, since that would also cleanse the enemy. After you get rid of the aura you can take your time to kill him any way you want.

The third way is more of a gamble. And only useful if you just need to beat this dungeon once. It will probably take quite some tries. The enemy first plays a charm that gives him a huge penalty and the charm that gives the aura after that. By including some spirit runes in your gear you can can only kill the aura. You have to be lucky though. And you'll probably burn quite some AP. But if you really need to defeat this dungeon in order to start the Kysin Keep quest for example this might be an acceptable solution.

Example Gear:

Black Agony x5
Dark Siphon x5
Grim Presence x5
Darkness Falls x5
Black Torture x5
Death Sentence x4
Staff of Decay x5
Chaotic Decay x4
Inquisition x5
Devastate x5
Way of the Scout x5
Crown of Prestige x3
Left Ear of Menithos x5

Fight 4

This fight is more of a combination between an actual fight and a puzzle. The enemy's behaviour depends on the runes that you play.

Axe: Player -60 to next melee, Everyone gets +5 to ongoing magic.
Sword: Everyone gets +3 to next spirit attack.
Mace: Core gets +10 to ongoing magic, Everyone gets ward reduced to 0.
Twinblades: Everyone gets 80 armor, Everyone gets +50 to next melee.
Spear: Core gets +10 to ongoing melee, Everyone gets +50 to next melee.
Fist: Core gets +2 to ongoing Spirit, Everyone gets +10 to ongoing magic.
Earth: Core gets +110 to next melee, Everyone gets 100 armor.
Shadow: Core Cleanses, Everyone gets -60 to next magic.
Holy: Arm immediately deals 100 melee damage, Everyone gets +5 to ongoing melee.
Lightning: Core gets immunity to next direct magic attack, Everyone gets normalized.
Frost: Player gets Dizzy faster, Everyone gets -60 to next magic.
Fire: Core gets -1 to ongoing spirit, Player gets -8 to ongoing magic.
Spirit: No effect.
Armor: No effect.
Ward: No effect.
Willpower: No effect.
Summon: Player loses 50 Life, Everyone gets 100 armor.
Buff: Core gets +1 to ongoing spirit, Everyone gets 250 ward.
Debuff: Core gets 80 armor and ward, Player gets aura duration increased by 2.
Tech: Arm immediately deals 0 magic damage, Core gets -10 to next spirit.

The best way I've found is to use auras. And by using debuff runes you can get those infinitely extended. Crystal of the Dawn does wonders here. And some armor/ward/healing auras never hurt. And since you are using debuff runes you might as well use some magic damage banes too to help do some damage. Persistent disease is perfect if you have it.

Example Gear:

Pyric Charge x5
Prismatic Charge x5
Dragon Aegis x2
Crystal of the Dawn x5
Side Effect x5
Persistent Disease x5
Hateful Flame x5
Way of the Scout x5
Duelist Consuming Flame x5
Staff of Decay x5
Moondrop Water x5
Petrification x4
Venom Dart x5

Whoever designed this place has way too much free time on their hands. They should consider using their superpowers for good instead of evil.

(Edit: PS great write-up though)

Yeah, this last fight made me really think, and cry, and attempt to commit suicide, then think again, cry... etc. I can't remember how I eventually beat it, but thanks for that guide, again Smile
